PURPOSE:To make a work wherein an microorganism and a polymer resin are mixed and the mixture is granulated into a particle with an appropriate diameter unnecessary by a method wherein aluminum hydroxide or iron hydroxide is made to exist on the surface layer part of a highly water-absorbing polymer gel to increase the gel strength. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum hydroxide or iron hydroxide is deposited on the surface layer part of a gel by bringing a highly water-absorbing polymer gel swollen with water into contact with a water soln. of an aluminum salt or an iron salt. As the highly water-absorbing polymer, such a polymer that has been processed in advance so as to be made into a granulated gel is used. A hydrogel carrier particle consisting of the highly water-absorbing polymer treated with this gel-reinforcing treatment is fed into a water being an object for treatment in an aeration tank A and is suspended and is floated and a screen B is stretched and brought into contact with the outlet of the aeration tank. In addition, an aeration tube 1 is arranged on the bottom part of the aeration tank A and an oxygen-contg. gas such as air is fed into the aeration tank A from a gas source such as a blower 9. It becomes unnecessary thereby to perform an artificial microorganism immobilization procedure.
