1,184,873. Hair rollers. SOBICO Inc. 24 May, 1968 [7 June, 1967], No. 24871/68. Heading A4V. A hair roller comprises an elongated body 11 having end portions 12 which extend both axially and radially beyond the body and carry hair-engaging means 20 on their external surface 28. The body portion is preferably spool-shaped and concave from end to end, terminating in integral flanges 14 which extend into the end portions, the roller being made of plastics material. The hair-engaging means may be hook-ended filaments, formed by first embedding upstanding filamentous loops in a flexible plastics base or weaving such loops into a woven base, and then cutting the loops on one side to provide hooks. Alternatively, upstanding thermoplastic filaments on a flexible base are heat-treated so that their ends either curl into hooks or collapse to form a mushroom-shaped head. The flexible hook-carrying base is then cut into strips and welded, sewn or glued to the face 28 of the end portions. The body surface 13 may have non- gripping projections 15, which are teeth, flattened squares or semi-circles, knobended cones, or filaments similar to those on the end portions but lacking hooks. |
