A steering-column-mounted gear-shift lever 30 is arranged to operate selector levers 84, 86 of a three forward speed and reverse gear 72 by a cable assembly 60 the outer casing 58 and inner core 62 of which are respectively connected to the selector levers 84, 86 whereby the outer easing 58 may turn the lever 84 for selection of second and third speeds (Fig. 5) with the other lever 86 held stationary in a central neutral position by interlocking means (not shown), whilst the inner core can turn the lever 86 for selection of first and reverse speeds with the first lever 84 similarly held stationary in its central neutral position by the interlocking means. As shown, the gear lever 30 operates the usual type sliding-turning tube 24, the lower end of which, via a dog type key clutch 36, 38, turns either one of two levers 40, 42 to which are pivotally connected rods 44, 50 respectively connected to the free ends of the cable outer casing 58 and centre core 62 respectively. |
