[Also in Division E1] A spiked metal plate for connecting metal web members to wooden chord members in a composite wood and metal building truss has teeth 33 which are punched out in pairs to form columns and rows of elongate slots 136, the rows being vertically aligned (as shown) or staggered. The teeth are stepped on one edge (35), and diverge from and then converge towards the other tooth of each pair from the root to the tip of the tooth. The die also crimps each tooth so that the outer surface 41 of the root is generally arcuate. The dishing is along a crimp line 42 (see Fig. 9) which is inclined with respect to the outwards direction of the tooth, so that the tooth is twisted (Fig. 4, not shown). |
