Recovery of Mg from Mg-salt mixtures, e.g. fluxes from Mg prodn. or coproduct from production of Zr from ZrCl4 by reaction with Mg, is effected by fusion in equipment where contact surfaces do not produce insoluble metallic cpds. Pref. a graphite crucible and graphite stirers are used.
