PURPOSE:To improve color separation properties of a multi-color thermal recording material by a method wherein two or more diazo thermal recording layers containing a coupler compound and the like are provided on a substrate, and an intermediate layer containing a UV rays absorber is provided between the upper and lower layers. CONSTITUTION:At least two diazo thermal recording layers containing a diazo compound and a coupler compound reacting with the diazo compound under heat to produce a color are provided on a substrate. A diazo sulfonate compound is incorporated in the lower diazo thermal recording layer as the diazo compound. An intermediate layer containing an ultraviolet light absorber is provided between the upper diazo thermal recording layer and the lower diazo thermal recording layer. In this manner, a multi-color thermal recording material is obtained. The diazo sulfonate compound in the lower diazo thermal recording layer is activated by a low-energy light irradiation, thereafter reacting with the coupler under heat to produce an azo dyestuff. By providing the aforesaid intermediate layer the decomposition of the diazo sulfonate compound in the lower layer by the light irradiation is prevented, and the lower layer can be thermally recorded. |
