PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing 4-(4-methylphenyloxy)biphenyl in which the substance useful as a sensitizer for heat-sensitive recording paper or an intermediate for producing an agrochemical, a polymeric compound monomer, an additive, etc., can industrially and extremely advantageously be produced. CONSTITUTION:A 4-halogenobiphenyl expressed by formula I (X is halogen) is reacted in a substantial anhydrous state in the presence or absence of an organic inert polar solvent in the presence of an alkali metallic compound and a copper-based catalyst to produce this 4-(4-methylphenyloxy)-biphenyl expressed by formula II. |
