1279517 Using ion exchange resins as filter aid; ion exchange; mixing apparatus DEGREMONT SOC GENERALE DEPURATION ET D'ASSAINISSEMENT 27 July 1970 [7 Aug 1969] 36322/70 Headings B1C B1D and B1J A mixture of anionic and cationic resins in liquid carrier is prepared in a vessel 1, having at least one stirrer 3 and anti-vortex baffles 2, and the stirrer continues to rotate while the mixture is injected by device 5 into a closed circuit comprising pump 7, filter 6 and excess liquid outlet 8. The mixture compries 20 to 100g of resin/litre, and injection proceeds over a period of 1/2 hour, while liquid flows through the filter at 3 to 5 cubic meters per hour per square meter of filter surface, thereby ensuring that the fine flocs of resin formed in vessel 1 are deposited on the filter surface before they can agglomerate into larger flocs. Outlet 8 may be on overflow or a valve, and liquid displaced therefrom as the mixture is pumped into the circuit is either discharged or returned to vessel 1. Device 5 may be an injector or a positive displacement or centrifugal pump. |
