A process for measuring the combustibility of tobacco or other similar combustible vegetable material comprises calcinating said tobacco or other material and determining the hydrosoluble alkalinity of the ashes so obtained, preferably by use of test papers produced by immersing a filter paper in 0.2% by weight congo red solution followed by immersion in a 0.2% by weight solution of bromocresol purple in acetic acid and water. |
