Apparatus for placing tubes on and removing them from rods. the tubes being e.g. bobbin tubes 58 and the rods being e.g. spindles 14 of a textile m/c, comprises a flexible, fluid tigh sac 122 which can be inserted in an open end of a tube 58 and means for allowing gas or liquid to enter and expand the sac into gripping relation with the interior of the tube. As shown sacs are mounted on plugs 108 threaded to a hollow. vertically movable member 54, the interior of the sac being in communication with the interior of member 54 through which fluid can be supplied. When removing a full bobbin the sac is inserted into tube 58 e.g. as in Fig. 2,-not shown, and then expanded so that the interior of the tube is gripped and then the conical end portion of the sac expands to bear down on the top of the spindle and thus loosen the tube on the spindle The sac may be provided with upper and lower compartments which can be pressurised in turn to improve the grip on the tube the part 140 of the sac may be roughened and additionally be designed to be more elastic than the lower part of the sac. To place an empty tube on a spindle the sac may be deflated to drop the tube in the spindle and then inflated as shown at 106' to bear down on the top of the tube and push it home. Alternatively the tube can be secured by lowering plug 108 so that flange 109 engages the top of the tube. |
