[Also in Division H2] A high voltage rectifier arrangement for T.V. incorporates a piezo-electric transformer 1 (Fig. 1). In operation a flyback pulse is applied to a drive section electrodes 3, 4 and the electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy by electrostriction so that the bar is caused to vibrate in its # mode. Resonance occurs in the direction of the bar length and a piezo-electric effect is produced in the generator half of the bar, section 6, and a potential difference appears between an electrode 7 and ground. Step up A.C. voltage thus obtained is rectified by a diode 8 and smoothed by C9. As shown Fig. 3 the transformer is supported by lead wires 16, 17 attached thereto at its node of minimum displacement. The output electrode 7 is connected via a spring to rectifier elements 22, 23. The assembly is enclosed in a hermetically sealed container 24, which may contain an insulating gas e.g. sulphur hexafluoride (SF6). Other mounting arrangements are described, including one wherein the generator section is also supported at its node of minimum displacement and by a resilient ring member (e.g. rubber) (Fig. 5, not shown) which surrounds the transformer, the said member being fixed to the container walls.
