A carpet, plush or needled felt web of polyamide or polyester fibres is (a) dyed, (b) dried and dye-set with hot air at 170-230‹C using at least one suction or pressure sieve drum, (c) washed in a plurality of stages using suction sieve drums, and (d) dried with hot air using at least one suction sieve drum. Dyeing may be by padding, printing or spraying. The material may be tentered and bonded in the case of non-woven and needled felt material during drying and setting. As shown, the material passes via a storer 3 and printer 5 through a drying and setting chamber 6 and a draw off roll 9, the material being subjected to cold air before or after passing the roll; a plurality of wash baths 11, each comprising a suction sieve drum 12 and followed by squeeze rolls 13; a dryer 14 comprising a suction sieve drum. The speeds of the units are variable jointly and individually. |
