[Also in Division H1] A magnetic amplifier is modified so that the core of the amplifier can attract a magnetizable member or another similar core. This is done by providing a portion of reduced cross-section in the magnetic core. One element (Fig. 1) of the amplifier is made with two sets of coils 2 and 3, each consisting of a load coil and a control coil wound on a magnetic core. The core is formed of U-shaped and inverted U-shaped sheets with the inverted sheets bridged to form a loop (Fig. 2, not shown) while the U-shaped sheets are not bridged. Thus the portion of reduced cross-section (see insert A) is provided by the upper part of the inverted U-shaped sheet. Alternatively the reduced section may be provided at every third, fourth or fifth sheet rather than at every other sheet.
