<p>1302383 Bowden mechanisms TELEFLEX Inc 24 Feb 1970 [12 June 1969] 8733/70 Heading F2K The conduit 12 of a Bowden cable 20 is secured at one end to a member (30) (Fig. 1, not shown) adapted to be mounted on a support structure, and is connected at the other end by an adjustment device 36 to a support member 38 adapted to be mounted on a support structure, a locking member 40 being movable in the support member 38 between a first position, Fig. 5, in which the adjustment device 36 can be moved in the longitudinal direction of the conduit 12 relative to the support member 38, and a second position, Fig. 3, preventing said movement. The adjustment device 36 comprises a plastics tube having an externally screwthreaded portion 44 secured to the end of the conduit 12 and divided by a flange 64 from a plain portion 28 supporting the end of the cable 20 extending from the conduit 12. A sleeve (26) on the cable and fitting (24) is slidable over the portion 28. Locking member 40 is slidable in a transverse bore 46 of the support member 38 and has a plain bore 50 which slidably receives the adjustment device 36 when the member 40 is in its first position, impinging on a parallel, screw-threaded bore 48. In the second position of member 40, the bore 48 receives the device 36 and interengagement of the screw-threads prevents axial movement of the latter. The shoulders (62) (Fig. 6, not shown) between the bores 48, 50 are spaced apart by a distance less than the diameter of device 36 so that the member 40 is snapped between its locking and free positions. The cable is used to connect a throttle pedal to a carburettor actuating arm in a motor vehicle.</p> |
