<p>6-APA is acylated with 3-phenyl-5-methylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid chloride in aq. acetone in the presence of sodium bicarbonate, the free acid extd. after acidification, with an organic solvent and the organic extract treated with an equimolar amount of anhydrous NaOAc. Oxacilline, i.e. the monohydrated sodium salt of 6-(3-phenyl-5-methyl-isoxazol-4-carbamino)-penicillanic acid, is an acid stable antibiotic and is obtained in high yield and in a purity suitable for parental administration.</p> |
