1380766 Inhalers H HIRTZ and H-J HIRTZ 15 March 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 12103/72 Addition to 1310949 Heading AST [Also in Division E2] A device for treating a patient's respiratory passages with warm air substantially as described in the Specification 1310949 in which a first assembly comprising a mask 20 and a reservoir 28 is withdrawable from a second assembly comprising a heater 22 and at least one outer wall 32. When assembled the heater 22 and the reservoir 28 surround a chamber 40 upstream of the mask. The reservoir 28 is concentric with the heater within the outer wall. The reservoir is a hollow cylinder of porous rigid material e.g. lime sand stone, pumice stone, a filtering stone or a ceramic and is fitted at one end with a plastics ring 51 which has projections 52 which form a first bayonet joint with recesses 48 in an intermediate member 45 forming part of a chamber 21 attached to the mask. Inner wall 31 and the outer wall 32 are releasably interconnected and connected to the intermediate member by a second bayonet joint construction Figures 5 to 9 (not shown). The heater 22 is attached to the inner wall 31 by a member 39 so that when the intermediate member and the inner wall are rotated to release the second bayonet joint the reservoir still attached to the intermediate member can be removed from around the heater. The reservoir can then be replaced or replenished with water or medicating liquid from a separate container (76) (Fig. 12 not shown). As the inner wall is rotated to release the bayonet joint electric supply contact pins 25 attached to a holder 70 operatively connected with the inner wall are rotated relative to a plug receiving socket 71 in the outer wall so that if a plug 26 is inserted it cannot connect with the pins. In use the air to be inhaled is drawn through apertures 35 in the base of the outer wall into an annular passage 34 between the outer and inner walls, through apertures 36 in the inner wall 31, over the reservoir and through apertures 37 in the member 39 into the chamber 40 where it is warmed to the desired temperature controlled by a thermostat 27 as it passes to the mask. An elastomeric seal 53 is fitted between the assemblies.
