A pressure proportioning and control mechanism for the fluid supplied to the cylinders of the brakes at the front and rear wheels of a vehicle, the mechanism including a proportioning device having a plungerand adapted to reduce the pressure on the rear wheels relative to the front wheels as the master cylinder pressure is increased, a piston on the plunger, a cylinder for the piston having an inlet and outlet port, means including a source of actuating fluid ancillary to the brake actuating fluid and responsive to a rapid deceleration of a wheel to rapidly reduce the braking pressure thereon, and a solenoid valve controlling the flow of fluid between the ports.
