The industrial polyester fiber is produced by spinning a polyethylene terephthalate chip of 0.9-1.0 intrinsic viscosity at 450-650 m/min spinning velocity to make an undrawn yarn, firstly drawing the yarn in the flat draft machine at 100-120 deg.C by 4.0-5.0 drawing magnification, secondly drawing it in the machine by 1.2-1.6 drawing magnification, and heat-treating it at 260-280 deg.C, firstly and 190-270 deg.C, secondly. The polyester fiber has a dry shrinking percentage of 2 % or less at 190 deg.C, a tenacity of 8 g/d or more, a crystallinity of 45-60 %, a crystal size of 36-55 ∦, a long period of 110-180∦ and a birefringence ratio of 0.1955-0.2050.
