The polyester fiber is produced by (a) melt-extruding a polyethylene terephthalate polymer of 1.0 intrinsic viscosity in the spinneret, (b) passing the spinning yarn through the heating cylinder of 100-500 mm length and cooling it, and (c) continuously multistep drawing and heat-treating the yarn. The heating cylinder has three heaters (A,B,C), and its temperature difference between the top and the bottom is 30 deg.C or more. The polyester fiber has a high strength, and is used as a sheet belt for vehicles.
