The method is particularly useful for applying coatings of polytetrafluoroethylene to glass fabrics. The polytetrafluoroethylene may be applied as an aqueous dispersion which may be sintered after application. The dispersion generally contains polymer particles of 0.1 to 0.5 microns and a surfactant is preferably present, such as ethoxylated aliphatic alcohols and ethoxylated alkyl phenols, or a solid silicone block copolymer. The tetrafluoroethylene may be copolymerised with other monomers such as hexafluoropropylene, perfluoro(alkylvinyl ethers) such as perfluoro(propylvinyl ethers) and perfluoro-(2-methylene-4-methyl-1, 3-dioxolane).</p> |
