<p>The body (1) which is inserted in the pipe line contains a semi-rigid plastics plug (6) which is bored (8,9) to allow the passage of the fluid and surrounds the rotating valve (11) of the tap. This is also bored to allow passage of fluid when aligned with the pipe axis and may be rotated by a handle (14), attached to its shank (12), which passes through the plastic plug and through a nut (19). The nut screws into the tap body and bears on the plastic plug, so that when any wear occurs, it may be tightened slightly to take up the wear. Various forms of valve are possible, such as spherical, or cylindrical and the fluid channel may turn through a right angle through the tap. In all cases, a spigot (18) prevents the plastics plug turning in the body when the tap is operated.</p> |
