<p>Two tilting trunnions are fixed to a carrier ring(a), which surrounds the vessel or converter barrel(b) to leave an annular gap(c); and the barrel(b) is suspended in ring(a) by levers(d) mounted between pivot bearings(e). One bearing(e) for each lever(d) is mounted on the ring(a), the other on the barrel(b). Each of one pair of levers(d1) is pref. located on a bearing(e1) on the top of ring(a) on each side of the barrel(b) and near a trunnion, the other end of the two levers(d1) each being located on a bearing(e) on the barrel. A lower pair(d2) of levers has three-point mountings; the resulting suspension unit absorbs tensile, compression, and bending loads. Stable suspension of the barrel (b) is achieved while permitting deformation of the latter during operation, i.e. due to temp. or wt. changes.</p> |
