PURPOSE:To easily obtain high-purity Cd(NO3)2 crystal suitable for a battery with high efficiency without necessitating specific treatment such as recrystallizing operation and also generating NOX, by dissolving CdO obtained by volatilizing and oxidizing metal Cd in concd. nitric acid and cooling the dissolved soln. at freezing point and below. CONSTITUTION:Metal Cd contg. a little impurities is dissolved in concd. nitric acid having 50-75% concn. at freezing point-80 deg.C without generating NOX. Then after keeping this dissolved soln. at >=60 deg.C if necessary and filtering nondissolved residue, it is cooled at freezing point and below to deposit high- purity Cd(NO3)2 crystal.
