STORAE BATTERY

PURPOSE: To suppress loss of electrolyte of a storage battery which can stand higher temperature by providing in its cell a hydrophobic porous material adjoining an electrode assembly for holding excessive electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: Two flat porous buds 26 and 28 are placed in a cell 16 adjacently to an electrode assembly 19 and electrodes 20 and 22 for holding excessive electrolyte. Since the porous material of the buds 26 and 28 has a hydrophilic property sufficiently lower than that of the electrode assembly 19 with respect to the electrolyte, electrolyte inside it displaces toward the electrode assembly to humidify the electrodes while excessive electrolyte is stored in it. The porous materials 26 and 28 has surface energy substantially smaller than the surface energy of the electrode assembly 19. The porous materials 26 and 28 is formed out of a hydrophilic material of apparent surface tensions of about 35dyn/cm or below at 20 deg.C.
