PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight soil substitute, capable of avoiding the deteriorating in supporting properties, having enhanced water holding power and useful as culture soil, etc., for gardens by mixing foam particles made of a synthetic resin with a modifying agent such as soils or soil improving agents, staple fiber having crimps and an adhesive and granulating the resultant mixture. CONSTITUTION:This lightweight soil substitute is obtained by subjecting a foam such as an expanded polystyrene molded body to the treatment with a pulverizer, then passing the pulverized molded body through a knotty perforated plate in which many round holes having 5mm diameter are bored, providing foam particles 1, having a particle diameter of 5mm undersize and made of the synthetic resin, then feeding the foam particles 1 made of the synthetic resin, at least one modifying agent such as soils or soil improving agents (e.g. zeolite) 2 and staple fiber having crimps (e.g. polyester staple fiber) 3 and an adhesive (e.g. a water-reactive urethane prepolymer, etc.) into a mixer 4, rotating a mixing agitator 5 and a chopper 6 and carrying out the mixing. The resultant soil substitute is capable of avoiding the deteriorating in supporting properties and improving water holding properties and useful as culture soil, etc., for gardens on the artificial ground. |
