PURPOSE:To remove foreign matter without requiring for a user to instruct wiping operations in a plurality of times. CONSTITUTION:In an ink jet recorder which has a recording head 5a which discharges ink drops and prints on a sheet of recording paper, and a wiping member 19 which cleans the discharge opening face of the recording head by touching it, the cleanability of the recording head is enhanced by making the touching force between the wiping member 19 and a jetting port face 5c of the recording head 5a when wiping is made in a forced mode of cleaning in response to an external instruction larger than when automatic wiping is made in connection with a print action. |
