To improve the kinematic properties and to achieve a greater flexibility as regards possibilities of use in the handling of pieces of cores for preparing a core packet ready for using castings, the invention first of all proposes a process in which, after removal from a core shooting machine, the core pieces are gummed in a stacking unit to give a core packet, introduced into a dipping bath and then fed in the correct position to a casting machine, in which furthermore in each case an upper core piece (K1) or an already assembled packet of core pieces (K1, K2; K1, K2, K3) is successively raised, in an exclusively linear manner, in the stacking unit (11) and in which in each case a lower core piece (K2; K3; K4) is held in a floating manner by means of an air cushion while the raised core piece (K1) or packet of core pieces (K1, K2; K1, K2, K3) is lowered onto the lower core piece (K2, K3, K4) for the purpose of joining. ……
