PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize learning information and improve character input operability by increasing the recognition order of a corresponding selected character when there is a candidate common to a candidate that stored learning information has among candidates. SOLUTION: Features are extracted from an inputted stroke string and matched against standard patterns stored in a standard pattern dictionary storage part for character recognition. Consequently, top 10 characters in order from the most similar one are stored as character recognition results in a recognition candidate temporary storage area. Then a system matches an initial recognition candidate in the recognition candidate temporary storage area against three recognition characters of each learning record stored in a learning record storage area 403 in a learning information storage area in sequence to select similar characters. Consequently, when a matching index is present, the select character information stored in the corresponding learning record is taken out as the 1st candidate in the recognition candidate temporary storage area and other candidates are decreased in order.
