PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency and operation speed of the processing by automatically recognizing and storing a character with reading KANA (Japanese syllabary) in an original so as to automaatically give reading 'KANA' or so as to automatically convert a special KANA word to a special KANJI (Chinese character). SOLUTION: A scanner 1 optically reads the original and a character recognizing part 7 recognizes character data in each prescribed area to output. When the character area of the recognized character data is separated to upper/lower parts and the characters in the upper character area is larger than the other characters, a character with reading KANA judging part 23 judges the upper characters to be the reading KANAs of the lower characters. Then based on this judging result, a KANA/KANJI dictionary editing part 28 prepares the upper/lower conversion codes of character data and makes them a pair to register in a KANA/KANJI converting dictionary part 26. |
