In order to provide a substrate enveloped by a uniform nucleation layer, a substrate seeded with a precious metal salt chemically bound to the substrate is disclosed, as well as a process to chemically bind the precious metal salt to a substrate and to provide a metallised powder. A powder is seeded with a precious metal salt and the nucleated region is coated with a metal layer. The surface of the powder is seeded with a precious metal salt in such a way that the latter is chemically bound to the substrate, and then currentless metallised in a manner known per se.
