The steering system incorporates an electric motor (19) switched in series with a clutch (20), and connected to an input shaft (17) of a servo member (15) via a first transmission (21) and to its output shaft (18) via a second transmission (22). Each transmission has a drive and take-off shaft. The drive shaft of the first transmission is the input shaft of the servo member, and the take-off shaft of the second transmission is the output shaft of the servo member. The rotor shaft (23) of the motor is connected via the clutch to the take-off shaft of the first transmission, and the drive shaft of the second transmission.
