Strain gauge with compensated transverse sensitivity

The strain gauge has a carrier layer (1) and a meander-shaped measurement grid (2) on the carrier layer consisting of several arms (2.1) connected together at direction changing points (2.2) and with connection areas (2.3). The area of the carrier layer inside the measurement grid has at least one material coating (3) acting as a strain coupler and with a higher modulus of elasticity than the carrier layer. An Independent claim is also included for a method of transverse sensitivity compensation.
