The method and appliance for removing dirt or paint (2) from objects with asbestos-content surfaces uses a cleaning-head (4) to which highly pressurized water is supplied. Air, water and removed particles are sucked up from the interior (10) of the cleaning-head by a vacuum source via a prefractionator (5) stage. The mixture is twice filtered. The cleaning head, high pressure cleaner (18), prefractionator and high pressure remover (6) are joined in series by pipes (16,7,8). The cleaning head has a hydraulic motor (15)driving either a rotary nozzle (11) or a ring or roller brush.
