PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyimide film having a high modulus and improved toughness by using a polyimide prepared by reacting a biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride with a diaminobenzanilide and a phenylenediamine. SOLUTION: This film is obtained by using a polyimide prepared by reacting (A) a biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by formula I (wherein (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0-3) with (B) a diaminobenzanilide represented by formula II (wherein (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0-4) and a phenylenediamine represented by formula III (wherein (n) is an integer of 0-4) and has a tensile elongation of at least 15% and a modulus of at least 900 kg/mm2. It is desirable that component A is 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhybride, component B is 4,4'-diaminobenzanilide, and component C is p- phenylenediamine. It is desirable that the diamine component comprises 5-55 mol% component B and 95-45 mol% component C.
