ANTIBACTERIAL COMPOSITION AND PRODUCTION OF ANTIBACTERIAL MATERIAL USING THE COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:To provide an antibacterial composition produced by dissolving or dispersing a PVC and an antibacterial agent in a medium and providing a safe medical supply capable of keeping excellent antibacterial effect throughout the service period by coating a medical supply with the composition. CONSTITUTION:This antibacterial composition is produced by dissolving or dispersing a PVC (preferably having a polymerization degree of 500-8,000) and an antibacterial agent (e.g. a quinolone-type antibacterial agent of the formula) in a medium (preferably THF). The composition is obtained preferably by dissolving PVC resin powder in a solvent to a concentration of 3-10% and dissolving or dispersing the antibacterial agent in the solution. The composition may be compounded with a plasticizer for PVC. The plasticizer is preferably di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate because of its resistance to dissolution in the body.
