PURPOSE: A method is provided to maintain the sealed state though a piston reciprocation over 100000m is performed by having the high surface solidity and the low roughness with an ionitriding process and a finishing process. CONSTITUTION: A material of a piston rod is cut and lathe-processed. The piston rod is refined. A surface of the piston rod is ion-nitrified. The surface of the piston rod is finished with an IDLF(Imperial Diamond Lapping Film). The finishing process is performed by an automatic super-finisher. The finishing is performed by vibrating leftward and rightward at 1.8-2.0Hz frequencies while the IDLF around a roll of the automatic super-finisher presses the surface of the piston rod(16). The piston rod(16) is rotated by a lathe center. The transfer speed of the IDLF is 15-30mm/min and the RPM of the lathe center is about 1800. A surface roughness is under RA 0.03 by the IDLF of a 1-3 μm mesh grade. Processing time is reduced by using the IDLF having the large mesh grade when the low surface roughness is unnecessary.
