Demand responsive flow control valve

The assembly includes a housing (28) with a control orifice (72) for dividing the fluid passage of fluid conduit (18) into upstream and downstream segments (74,76) connected to a steering gear (90). The fluid flow along the orifice is regulated by a valve pintle (92) moving linearly along the orifice. The linear movement of the valve pintle is regulated by an inboard stop (116) provided in the housing. The inboard stop is frictionally coupled with the housing by a tubular sleeve (118) during initial position. The operation of valve pintle is stopped by the inboard stop, before the valve pintle reaches the active position. The position of inboard stop is set by a drive element arranged outside housing by thrusting inboard stop against valve pintle with a force exceeding friction force. The movement of valve pintle is induced such that flow rate of fluid across downstream segment of the fluid conduit reaches lower limit.
