BINDER CONTAINING VINYL ALCOHOL POLYMER, SLURRY, NONAQUEOUS ELECTROLYTE SECONDARY BATTERY, AND ITS ELECTRODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder excellent in the adhesive strength to an electrode current collector and the holding power of an active material by containing a vinyl alcohol polymer at a specific ratio. SOLUTION: This binder for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery contains a vinyl alcohol polymer having 30-95 wt.% of the cyclic unit expressed by the formula I in a polymer chain. At least one kind of the cyclic units expressed by formulas II-IV, where (n) is 1-8 and X is halogen, is preferably contained in addition to the cyclic unit expressed by the formula I. An ethylene- vinyl alcohol copolymer (saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) or a vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol polymer (partially saponified polyvinyl acetate) is used, for example, and the polymerization degree is 300-20000. A slurry for an electrode can be obtained by using the binder for an electrode. A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a good cycle characteristic and an electrode used for the secondary battery can be obtained by using this slurry.
