Production of components close to their final shape comprises using a thixoforming process in which a bolt made of a metallic or composite material is heated so that the material becomes thixotropic and can be cast. The bolt is partially encased by a sleeve made of metal or metal alloy having a higher melting point than the processing temperature of the bolt. The bolt with its sleeve is placed in a casting chamber when its thixotropic structure is reached and the bolt material is squeezed out from the sleeve. Preferred Features: The sleeve has a protective layer made of an oxide, nitride or carbide produced by a sol-gel reaction. The bolt is completely encased.
