PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information service system which ensures high security for communication between a user's terminal of information service and an information server providing information. SOLUTION: The user's terminal 2 connects directly to the information server 11 over the control channel of ISDN and sends the information regarding authentication and settlement. The information server 1 while following received procedures for authentication and settlement generates certificate data certifying the procedures. The certificate data are sent to the user's terminal 2 via the control channel of ISDN. Then the user's terminal 2 connects the information server 1 via an information channel of ISDN through an Internet connection server 4 and the Internet 5 and sends the certificate data. The information server 1 compares the received certificate data with a copy of the certificate data sent to the user's terminal 2 and sends the service information to the user's terminal 2 through the Internet 5 when the both match each other.
