PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2,4-oxazolidinedione compound, by which the 2,4-oxazolidinedione compound can simply and profitably be produced at a low cost and in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2,4-oxazolidinedione compound comprises reacting a 2-hydroxycarboxylate with urea and a carbonate in the presence of a metal alcoholate and then treating the obtained product with an acid, or reacting a 2-hydroxycarboxylate with urea in the presence of a metal alcoholate, reacting the product with a carbonate, and then treating the obtained product with an acid.
