PURPOSE:To communicate a selected content to a video distribution center by a bidirectional communication whose capacity is small by easily selecting an offered program in a conventional CATV on a TV screen. CONSTITUTION:The menu information of the up-to-date program to be offered is supplied through a same line 6 as a video signal by using a specific stream ID of MPEG data, and the up-to-date program information is offered to a user. Also, a large amount of selectors are classified into categories, and easily selected on a TV screen 13 by controlling an on-screen character display LSI 12, and simultaneously the selected information is communicated to the video distribution center by an up communication 5 whose capacity is small. Therefore, the program desired by the user can be easily selected from among the large amount of programs by the up communication whose capacity is small and the one-way communication whose capacity is large.
