PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device capable of reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup device 1 has a solid-state image pickup element 10, and an image data generating means (AFE 12, digital signal processor 18) for generating image data from a picked-up image signal outputted from the pickup element 10. Further, the device is provided with a timing generator 16 which performs control for providing a period of stopping the operation of the AFE 12 and the processor 18 respectively, during the interval from the finish of signal processing with respect to a first picked-up image signal up to the start of signal processing with respect to a second picked-up image signal, when long-time exposure in which an exposure period for obtaining a second picked-up image signal next to a first picked-up image signal continues for a predetermined time, is performed also after outputting of the first picked-up image signal from the pickup element 10 is completed, in an operation mode wherein picked-up image signals are continuously outputted from the pickup element 10.
