PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality by suppressing the occurrence of print staining in a black-dot shape on an image. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit for forming a developer image on a medium, a fixing device which fixes the developer image on the medium sent from the image forming unit, a separating unit which separates the medium discharged from the fixing device from a fixing member, and an interval varying member which varies the interval between the separating member and fixing member. Since the interval varying member is disposed which varies the interval between the separating member and fixing member, when the interval becomes smaller as the image forming apparatus is used for a long time, the interval can be increased to the original interval. Since a developer sticking on the separating member does not sneak into the fixing member, the print staining in the black-dot shape on the image can be suppressed to improve the image quality.
