PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leather surface protective agent which has a natural polishing effect, a flexibility-giving effect and durability in the field of leather surface protective agent. SOLUTION: The leather surface protective agent comprises 1-30 wt.% of a polymer dispersed in a liquid polyhydric alcohol, the polymer being obtained by polymerizing 5-60 mol% of 2-(meth)acryloyloxyethyl-2'-(trimethylammonio)ethyl phosphate, 40-95 mol% of an alkyl (meth)acrylate having a 10-22C alkyl group, and 0-20 mol% of another monomer, and having solubility to 25°C water of 0.5 wt.% or less and a weight average molecular weight of 5,000-5,000,000.
