PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of monitoring the combustion state of coke furnace by which the occurrence of imperfect combustion inducing black smoke is determined at an early stage and coped with by a simple structure. SOLUTION: The coke furnace includes: a plurality of ovens each constituted of a carbonization chamber 2, a combustion chamber 1 and a regenerator 3 and arranged in parallel; and a pair of smoke ducts 4, 5 joined to each other and connected to a stack. A waste smoke is discharged from the regenerator 3 through the smoke ducts 4, 5 alternately corresponding to the switching of the combustion. A first smoke concentration meter 11 and a second smoke concentration meter 12 are provided respectively in a path of each of the smoke ducts 4 and 5 before the joining and it is judged based on the measured values in the first smoke concentration mater 11 and the second smoke concentration meter 12 whether the imperfect combustion in the combustion chamber occurs or not.
