The present invention provides a method for preparing multi-wall carbon nanotubes modified with methacrylate, the method comprising the steps of: adding an acid to multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), followed by ultrasonic treatment, to form a carboxyl group (-COOH) on a surface of the MWCNT (first step); adding thionyl chloride to the multi-wall carbon nanotubes in the first step to substitute the carboxyl group with a chloro-carbonyl group (-COCl) (second step); adding a coupling agent to the multi-wall carbon nanotubes in the second step to substitute the chloro-carbonyl group with an amino group (-NH2) (third step); and adding a monomer having an acrylate group to the multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-NH2) in the third step and performing a Michael addition reaction to substitute the amino group with a methacrylate group (fourth step). Therefore, the acrylate group can be introduced to the surface of the multi-wall carbon nanotubes in a chemical manner while minimizing the damage to the surface of the multi-wall carbon nanotubes. Especially, the multi-wall carbon nanotubes, to which a lot of methacrylate is introduced using a Michael addition reaction, allows free radical polymerization, and leads to the production of a carbon nanotube composite together with various polymers. |
