A cigarette lighter comprises an ignition mechanism comprising a flint 92, a flint wheel 91 and a spring 93, mounted within a frame 94, 95 which is completely accommodated either (as shown) in a recess in the plastic lighter casing 85 or in a recess in a cover 105 mounted on the casing, and is retained therein by the mounting of the cover 105 on the casing. Secured to the frame tray 94 is a stub axle 96 on which the wheel 91 and a pawl and ratchet mechanism 97 are mounted. A flint guide channel 98 is secured to the underside of the frame lid 95, and has an aperture 99 for the spring end 100 which engages in a flint pusher 101. The cover 105 may be rotated on a mounting screw 104 to permit the replacement of the flint, a projection 106 on the cover engaging the spring end 100 during rotation to move it away from the flint. A new flint is inserted through an aperture 107 in the lid 95. Movement of the spring end 100 is halted when the flint 92 is almost worn away. An operating lever 110 is pivotally mounted to the casing at its lower end and is spring-urged to project through a slot in the casing. On inward pressure of the lever, the upper end 113 of the lever 110 engages a member 114 which raises the valve of the butane gas burner 90. The end 113, also has a slot (not shown) which receives a ball end of a projection 115 projecting from the mechanism 97, so that as the lever is moved, the wheel 91 is rotated. |
