<p>1,167,952. Magnetic tape guides. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 June, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 29524/67. Heading G5R. A plate 25 for guiding a magnetic tape helically around a drum 7 has its ends formed with deflecting surfaces 11, 11<SP>1</SP> for guiding the tape to, and away from, the drum, so that in, e.g. helical wrap video tape recorders, the tape approaches and leaves the drum in one plane, thereby allowing the spools 2, 16 to be coplanar. Accordingly, the drum 7 is tilted at an angle # to the base 1 and the tape is wrapped around the drum for 180 degrees at a pitch angle #, magnetic heads (9, Fig. 2, not shown), rotating in a slot in the drum. Equations are derived in which the inclination of the deflecting surfaces 11, 11<SP>1</SP> to the base 1 and the angle # through which the tape is deflected by the surfaces are related to the angles # and # defined above. As shown, the tape 3 is guided over tensioning arm 4, roller 5, erase head 6, drum assembly 7, audio and sync. head 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, between capstan 13 and pinch roller 14, and over tensioning arms 15.</p> |
