[Also in Division B5] A component of a heel end moulding machine consists of a lining sheet 15 of polytetrafluorethylene or similar polyfluorocarbon material moulded to the shape of the heel end of a shoe and a support 16 of elastomeric material e.g. polyurethane, moulded around the sheet. The component is incorporated in a mould of the type described in Specifications 1,091,082 and 1,108,552. The component is made by stretching the sheet of polyfluorocarbon material around a heel shaped form 21 (Fig. 5) using a stretching plate 22 to which the sheet is clamped by means of plates 23, 24 and screws 25, the plate 22 being moved by a screw 28. Before being stretched the outer surface of the sheet may be treated with a substance which facilitates subsequent bonding e.g. sodium etch treatment. After stretching the internal stresses in the sheet are removed by heat treatment, and the sheet is transferred whilst remaining on the form 21 to a mould for application of the supporting means 16 which is applied to it by a moulding operation. The outer-etched surface of the sheet is first coated with a bonding liquid e.g. an isocyanate modified resin, and the elastomeric material to form the supporting means 16 is then poured into the mould to mould it around the stretched lining sheet and simultaneously bond it to the sheet.
